PROCLAMATION
“AVIATION WEEK”
February 18th through 23rd, 2008
WHEREAS: Yuma is rich in aeronautical history; from its original beginnings in World War II, to it’s, the designation on July 20, 1962 as Marine Corps Air Station; and
WHEREAS: Aviation is vital for the health, safety and welfare of Yuma by providing such specific benefits as emergency medical services, law enforcement, agricultural production, environmental protection, search and rescue and disaster relief; and
WHEREAS: Aviation is a key economic factor in Yuma’s vitality important as both an economic engine and as a transportation resource connecting Yuma to the international market; and
NOW, THEREFORE, I, Lawrence K. Nelson, Mayor of Yuma, Arizona encourage all citizens and organizations in Yuma to join together in celebration of the great achievements and cultural improvements to mankind brought about by the advancement and utilization of aviation during the past 80 years, and do hereby proclaim February 18th through 23rd, 2008, as:
AVIATION WEEK IN YUMA
And I urge all citizens of the Yuma to take cognizance of this event and participate fittingly in its observance.
